One of the key challenges face by our modern-day generation is to handle Mental Well-being. The days are nearby where, Mental Health related subject matter will be added in our Education System. It is inevitable whereby the educational institution will need to develop mental health resources for the students in the campus.
Education Institution will need to have an academician which are highly trained and experienced in counselling and life coaching to guide the students and more importantly, being psychotherapist and organization psychologist to counsel the students and help them get over their problems to concentrate on their studies.
As the education is increasingly pivoted towards e-learning or blended learning amidst pandemic, it is very important for teachers in higher learning institution to pick up the signs of distress in students and reach out to them in order to address their mental health issues or refer them to mental health professional such as our in-house psychotherapist Ms. Michelle Tan at ERC Institute Singapore. At the same time, students should change their mindset and be more vocal to address such issues.
Students need to follow 3 easy steps:
1. Be Bold: Identify the Mental Wellness issue which is bothering you and affecting your studies. There is no limit to, you can identify personal issues, family issues, mental health issues and much more.
2. Don’t be Shy: Share it with the counsellor for him/her to guide you to overcome your issues. Our psychotherapist can help you with some resources, guidance and the directory to refer in-dept support.
3. Be Courageous: Arrange for a confidential counselling session with trained counsellor. Discuss the Mental Wellness issue at hands which is affecting your studies. You should be brave enough to discuss deeper and she will intervene if required.
